Petting Farms in Metro Detroit

One of my favorite things to do in the spring and summer is visit petting farms in my area. Kensington Metropark Farm Center is my go-to place whenever I want to visit with some adorable animals. At the farm, you are welcome to pet the animals but not feed them.

I recently had the chance to visit a few more local petting farms while writing an article for a class. While researching the different farms, I came across one I had never been to. Heritage Park Petting Farm is an educational farm in Taylor where visitors are welcome to pet the farm animals and learn about the different breeds. This farm is by far the most interactive I’ve been to as visitors are allowed to enter into the animal pens with the permission of a barn attendant.

If you’re an animal enthusiast, here are a few places in Metro Detroit worth visiting.

Springtime in Bloom

Waiting for the Sun

Flowers and plants get their nourishment from sunlight.  As the sun is beginning to shine more and more each day, the signs of outdoor plant life are growing.

Spring is quickly approaching, and plants are sprouting from the ground. Some shrubs are even showing berries.

Herbaceous perennials slept during the fall and winter but will be popping up in no time.

Lowe’s and Kroger will be stocking shelves with outdoor plants and flowers soon, whereas Home Depot has already started.

Gardeners eagerly anticipate the coming months. Warmth and beauty develop during these seasons, and smiles will be shared among those who loathe winter.

Capturing Photojournalism

Tips to remember when taking photos
Journalism comes in many forms. You can tell a story by writing the words down on a page, or you can tell a story using photographs. Videos are also an option. Sometimes, you can even do all three.
In the following slideshow, I used photos and captions to articulate some essentials of photojournalism. It might seem challenging at first, but it can be easy if you just remember a few key points. Here are some tips from Photojournalism: Journalists’ Toolkit.
Keep it simple.
Pay attention to lines and positioning.
Keep subjects balanced within a photo.
Try framing to add depth.
Avoid mergers.
My tip: Have fun!
